Expanded metal mesh refers to metal sheet that has been processed through specialized equipment to form a networked material sheet. Steel mesh encompasses various types of metal screening products, also known as metal plate mesh, diamond mesh, iron net, expanded metal net, heavy steel plate net, pedal net, punching plate, aluminum mesh, stainless steel net, filter net, granary antenna network, and audio network.

Standard expanded metal features diamond-shaped patterns produced by simultaneously slitting and stretching the material. Flattened expanded metal is created by passing raised expanded metal through a cold rolled reducing mill, resulting in a flat and smooth surface.
